Petrina Sciandra of Buffalo, NY, Shares Opinion on Governor's Tuition Proposal in Buffalo News Feature

2017 Mar 2

Medaille College senior Petrina Sciandra of Buffalo, NY, shared her opinion on New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's Excelsior Scholarship Program in a Buffalo News feature on February 17. She is one of many Medaille students who has voiced opposition to the proposal, which aims to provide "free tuition" to students who attend SUNY and CUNY institutions.

Sciandra told Buffalo News reporter Jay Tokasz that she supports the idea of free tuition. However, Tokasz writes, Sciandra "said it would be a shame if it came at the expense of a private institution like Medaille, where she studies business administration." As Sciandra explained, Medaille's small class sizes helped her develop a close relationship with her professors. This resulted in classroom success.

"[Medaille's class sizes] are great for students that can't learn in a bigger setting," she told The News. "This is very important for some students."
